Before continuing our stories, we first wanted to thank you all for the replies and reactions on the site!! And not to forget the extra picture spaces we got...Muchas Gracias!!

We saw that a lot of people are also looking forward to their vacation...Luckely as it is July, that is coming very close for all of you ;-)

So far we have eaten a lot of potato and other soups, rice dishes with chicken and beef for prices like $1.50 - $2 (the set meals) and sometimes a bit more luxury..(no Subway though..) As for the drinks, mainly beers, jugos (fresh fruit juices) colas, and a lot of water (no tequilla shots yet)

In Latacunga we ate a speciality of pork (fried skin and normal), corn and popcorn, fried bananas and potatoes, quite ok :p Also we went to the hairdresser for $1.50 (Wietse) and $2.50 (Jessica).

OK, some news since Baños...There, on Tuesday 24 june we mountain biked the Cascada route for 20km. The day after we walked really high to see the volcano Tungurahua, we walked for 3 hours to arrive on top...but unfortunately we couldn't see anything because there were too much clouds!!! :-(
In the evening, we relaxed of the past 2 days in the thermal baths, that was great!!! 38 and 48 degrees and after hop under the cold shower! it's supposed to be good for the circulation :-)
We also met 2 dutch couples in a great hostal in Baños (plantas y blanco) where we stayed. Then we decided to go together to Alausi where we spent a great evening in a pizzeria (la pizzeria d'Angelo) there were 2 guys playing guitar and singing.
Yhe morning after we took a train (chiva express, which is a bus on rails) to the devil's nose (la nariz del Diablo) that was great because we were on the roof of the train...scary...! Though it was not as scary as we thought reading before.
In the begining of the afternoon we all took a bus to Cuenca...4 hours driving. We arrived there on friday 27 june we said goodbye to Eline and Pieter, and also to Eus and Paul 'cause we stayed in different hostals. We visited a part of the beautiful city of Cuenca (we liked it more then Quito, sorry Sander ;-) ) with a lot of magnific churches and center.

The day after (saturday) we visited the argeological site of INGARPIRCA, the weather was not so good, cold, rain; then in the afternoon we just came back to Cuenca and did another round.

On sunday morning we woke up early to go to visit the national parc LAS CAJAS, we stopped in Laguna TORREADORA...beautiful landscape, however the weather was not...the tour became a nightmare...(or at least for Jessica) the way was very slipery, hard to climb, with rain, cold...we walked 3 hours, our pants were completely dark from the mud and we were wet until our knees!Then when we came back, Wietse washed the pants with his hands in the shower before puting them it to the wash machine. In the afternoon we visited the indigineous fruit and vegetable market of GUALACEO.

On monday the 30th of june we visited the Museum of PUMAPUNGO where we saw shrunken heads of the Shuar population! that was unbelievable, the museum is amazing...then with the ticket entrance we also could have visit the argeological site, it was really interesting! At 13h we took a bus further South to LOJA where we could choose two border crossings and finally we choose the less traveled route known as LA BALSA. In LOJA we exchanged our american dollars (money used in Ecuador) into Soles (money used in Peru), Wietse took the advantage to buy the football shirt from LA LIGA DE QUITO for 8 dollars! After having spent 1 night in the hostal LONDRES we took a bus to VILCABAMBA (beautiful village also) where we relaxed for 1 night.

Peru is getting close!!!... the 2nd of july we left VILCABAMBA around 6h15 and we arrived in ZUMBA at 11h30, we waited until 14h30 for a ranchera (open truck with wooden seats) which brought us to the border crossing of LA BALSA. The road was unpaved with only stones and dry earth and a lot of holes...we were quite shaked! but it was a kind of fun...!

When we arrived at the border crossing we registered at the migration service and from here we took a complete destroyed car, 8 persons + the driver to bring us to SAN IGNACIO for like 3,1/2 hours!!! We think it was the worse road we've seen so far! Finally after two incredible days travelling across the border we arrived in San Ignacio around 20h. We spent 1 night in the hostal LA POSADA (15 soles = 5 dollars for a room with TV and private bathroom)

In the morning of the 3rd of july, after a great breakfast for 3 soles each (1 dollar) we took a Mototaxi (like a TUCTUC) and then a car to bring us to CHACHAPOYAS...Along the road they were working and we had to wait for 1.5h before continuing. We arrived there around 19h30.

After a good night in the hostal LA PLAZA we did a round in the center of the city to inform on what we could see and do...then we decided to stay a few days there. The day after (4th july) we took an organised tour with a guide to go to the Kuelap fortress. The site is huge and you have the idea to be in an Indiana Jones movie it is incredible, we saw the ruins of the CHIMU (pre-colombian); there we a french couple (Aurore and Olivier), after a long walk for 3h30 under a really strong sun and warm temperature, we went back to a village to eat there. In the evening with Aurore and Olivier we invited our guide Augusto to eat a grill in a good restaurant.

The day after (Sunday) we visited REVASH in the morning, really interesting, but tiring to go so high with these tempature and sun (3000 meters high) and in the afternoon the museum of LEYMEBAMBA.

From CHACHAPOYAS, we will continue to the coast and southwards in the direction of LIMA.

Avant de continuer nos histoires, nous souhaitons tous vous remercier pour les réponses et réactions sur le blog!! Et biensur nous n'oublions pas non plus les espaces de photos reçus en cadeau...muchas gracias!!

Nous avons vu que beaucoup de gens attendaient avec impatience leurs vacances...heureusement c'est juillet, ça vient très vite!!! ;-)

Jusqu'ici nous avons mangé beaucoup de soupe à la pomme de terre et autres, du riz accompagné de poulet et/ou viande pour environ $1.50 - $2 (les plats du jour, matin et soir...on n'en a un peu marre du riz...) et parfois, mais rarement un peu plus luxueux...
En ce qui concerne les boissons, Bières, jugos (jus de fruis coupés avec de l'eau), coca et differentes sortes, et beaucoup d'eaux minerales (pas de tequilla shot pour le moment)

Dans la ville de Latacunga, nous avons mangé une specialité de porc (de la peau de poule frie mais aussi normale) accompagné de popcorn, de mais, des bananes fries et des pommes de terre...c'etait pas si mal :p
Oh...nous avons aussi été chez le coiffeur pour $1.50 (Wietse) and $2.50 (Jessica).

OK...des petites nouvelles depuis Banos...
Nous avons ete faire du VTT le mardi 24 juin sur la route des cascades de 20km. Le lendemain nous avons marché très haut pour atteindre le point de vu du volcan Tunguaruha,nous avons marché pendant 3 heures pour arriver au sommet...et nous n´avons même pas pu voir le volcan car il y avait plein de nuages!!! :-(
Le soir, nous avons été nous relaxer de ces 2 journées dans des piscines thermales, c´était genial!!! 38 degrés et 48 degrés, puis après sous l'eau froide! c´est bon pour la circulation :-)
Nous avons également rencontré 2 couples hollandais dans le super hostal de Baños ou nous sommes restés (plantas y blanco) et du coup nous sommes partis ensemble pour Alausi ou nous avons passé une super soirée dans un restaurant italien (la pizzeria d'Angelo) des gars jouaient de la guitarre et chantaient des chansons espagnoles et italiennes.

Le lendemain nous avons pris ensemble le train (chiva express) pour nous emmener jusqu´à la nariz del diablo (narine du diable) c´etait genial car nous etions sur le toit du train...
Puis en début d'aprem nous avons tous pris le bus pour la ville de Cuenca...4 heures de route
Arrivés à Cuenca le vendredi 27 juin nos chemin se sont séparés et nous sommes allés chacun dans un hotel different. Nous avons ete faire un tour dans la très jolie ville de Cuenca, avec beaucoup d'eglises et un très joli centre.
Le lendemain (samedi) nous sommes allés visiter le site inka INGAPIRCA, le temps etait pourri! l'aprem lorsque nous sommes revenus a Cuenca, nous sommes retourner se promener dans la ville.

Le dimanche matin nous sommes partis très tot afin d'aller visiter le parc national 'LAS CAJAS' nous nous sommes arretés à la Torreadora...paysage maginfique, cependant le temps n'y était pas...la promenade s'est vite transformée en cauchemard, le chemin était très glissant, très pentu, avec la pluie, le froid, nous avons marché 3 heures, nos pantalons etaient noirs, nous etions trempés jusqu'aux genoux! Lorsque nous sommes retournés à l'hostal, Wietse a nettoyé les pantalons à la main sous la douche avant de les emmener à la laverie, puis l'aprem nous avons visité un petit village GUALACEO ou nous avons fait un petit tour sur le marché de fruits et légumes.

le lundi 30 juin nous sommes allés visiter le musée de PUMAPUNGO ou nous avons vu des vraies têtes de momies retrecies! c'etait incroyable,puis nous avons ensuite ete visité le site arquéologique...très interessant!!! ensuite à 13h nous avons pris le bus en direction du sud pour la ville de LOJA afin de rejoindre la frontière pour le Pérou par la Balsa.
A Loja nous avons echangés nos Dollars américains de l'Equateur en Soles (monnaie utilisée au Pérou), Wietse en a profité pour acheter le maillot de football de la LIGA DE QUITO pour 8 dollars! Puis après une nuit dans l'hostal LONDRES nous avons pris le bus pour VILCABAMBA (très jolie ville aussi) ou nous nous sommes relaxés pour une nuit.

Le Pérou approche à grand pas!!!!!... le 2 juillet nous avons quittés VILCABAMBA pour la ville de ZUMBA afin de passer la frontière,nous sommes partis le matin à 6h15 et arrivés à 11h30, de là, nous avons du attendre 14h30 ou nous avons pris la 'ranchera' (une espèce de mini bus en bois ouvert sur les cotés) la route n'etait faite que de terre et de cailloux...nous avons été bien secoués! mais c'était bien marrant!
Arrivés à la frontiere, nous nous sommes enregistrés au service de migration puis nous avons pris une voiture complètement déglinguée,8 personnes dedans + le conducteur pour faire 3heures et demi de route pour arriver à SAN IGNACIO aux environs de 8h30 au Pérou...je crois que c'etait la pire route et conduite que nous n'avions jamais vu! Nous avons passé 1 nuit à l'Hostal POSADA (15 soles = 5 dollars pour une chambre avec télé et salles de bains!)

Le 3 juillet au matin après un bon petit dejeuner pour 3 soles chacun (1 dollar) nous avons pris un tuctuc...taxi-moto puis une voiture pour se rendre à CHACHAPOYAS...route TRES longue (1 jour de voyage) pour arriver finalement aux environs de 19h30
Après une bonne nuit a l'hostal PLAZA nous avons ete faire un tour dans cette ville et se renseigner sur les choses à faire...nous avons donc décidé de rester quelques jours ici. Le lendemain ( 4 juillet) nous avons pris un tour organisé avec un guide pour aller visiter la forteresse de KUELAP; le site est incroyablement grand et nous avions l'impression de se trouver dans un film d'Indiana Jones, nous avons vu des restes de citées CHIMU (pré-colombiennes) ici nous avons rencontré 2 français Aurore et Olivier, après une longue marche de 3h30 sous un soleil de plomb et une chaleur intensive nous sommes redescendu pour pou aller manger. Puis nous sommes retourner à l'hostal REVASH ou nous avons le soir invité notre guide AUGUSTO à manger. Le lendemain nous sommes partis visiter le site de REVASH ainsi que le musée de LEYMEBAMBA, site aussi très interessant et très fatiguant à la montée...avec toujours une chaleur incoyable dans les hautes montagnes (3000 mètres d'altitude)!

De CHACHAPOYAS, nous allons coninuer vers la cote et plus dans le sud en direction de la capitale LIMA.
